Los Angelitos Orphanage
The Welfare Dept. of Tijuana estimates there are 6,000 homeless children in the streets of Tijuana. Government officials say most of the homeless children have not finished elementary school and suffer from malnutrition, skin infections, gastrointestinal problems, and sexually transmitted diseases.
Understandably, there's a strong need for orphanages within the Tijuana area. In fact, many border-area orphanages and related organizations vie for significant funding. Los Angelitos was one such orphanage in need of a visual identity that would help them stand out when they approached Scott.
The original identity was created using clip art and put together through the help of various individuals at different points in time. Because of this, many of the fundraising touch points were inconsistent and did not represent an organization that was fiscally responsible. Los Angelitos needed a cohesive visual presence that would garner confidence in the eyes of potential donors looking for a trustworthy cause to fund.
By conducting interviews and visual audits, analyzing research findings, and working closely with the director at Los Angelitos, Scott helped identify a few demographics that were likely to support the Los Angelitos mission. A design brief was created to help drive the identity development process and promote consistency toward the execution of a communication and fundraising strategy.
The next phase included the creation of a logo, a color palette, and photo and language styles. Shortly thereafter came the development of the fundraising materials—stationary, website, e-newsletter templates, information graphic, social media strategy, vehicle graphics, and a conference booth.
The Los Angelitos Orphanage identity was built around the idea of the core or heart of Los Angelitos—the children, the staff, and the many supporters who help keep these doors open. They have since begun speaking with one voice about the children's many needs in an efficient and purposeful manner. The result? An increase in funding via online solicitations and a wider breadth of supporters ranging from pop stars to industrial contractors.
